ONE CHILD ONE VOICE

2002

F1A2ONE CHILD – ONE VOICE is a compelling and engaging appeal to protect our planet that features five children from five continents. Shot on 35 mm film, this special broadcast has extremely high production values. Connecting with children using a powerful visual metaphor with which they will automatically identify, we lead our young viewers into the vivid world of a surreal carnival – a parallel universe to our modern society. A kaleidoscope of carnival metaphors, such as a roller coaster, a merry-go-round, bumper cars and a house of mirrors, illustrates environmental issues spanning energy use, climate change, desertification, deforestation, biodiversity, over-consumption and exponential population growth.

F1BEach child addresses the issue most relevant to his or her region. For example, a young girl from Bangladesh talks about the impact that climate change will have on her country. Bangladesh is one of the world’s most low-lying areas and could be most severely impacted by a change in the world’s climate. A child from Africa, Asia, and North and South America each expresses his or her hopes for the future.

Woven throughout this special broadcast are layers of documentary footage, visual effects and specially commissioned material from all over the world. Viewers will be inspired by the sheer power of its message and presentation.

F1DProduced for the 2002 United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, this film responds to the call of the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan for the people of the world to “become engaged, get involved…to steer things in the right direction.” ONE CHILD – ONE VOICE offers the television viewer a way to become personally involved in the Johannesburg Summit – through the TREE OF LIFE Campaign. To support the World Summit, television viewers drew leaves on postcards and sent them to Johannesburg where they were hung with thousands of others from people all over the world as a magnificent and visible symbol of their concern for the future of the planet. Kids Against Pollution (KAP) built this tree. Join them in keeping it alive.

ONE CHILD – ONE VOICE was sent to over a thousand television stations in May via satellite. Due to its immense success and popularity, it has been transmitted three more times to over 3,000 TV stations through a grant from Intelsat. Telespazio of Italy and KDDI of Japan have also donated all or part of their satellite services for the encore presentation.

Counterpart International was the first group to offer partnership to the Campaign. EarthVoice was soon to follow. Now the United Nations Foundation and the National Wildlife Federation’s Kid’s Zone have joined. Many groups in the United States are holding screenings.

F1CA one-hour version of ONE CHILD – ONE VOICE was produced in 1992 for the EARTH SUMMIT in Rio. The global outpouring of voices for the original TREE OF LIFE was immense and exceeded all expectations. Over a million leaves were delivered and hung for the entire world to see. An original poster created by Peter Max promoted the film.
